Five people have been arrested following a memorial ride between west and east Auckland today.
Police today monitored the movements of a group of at least 100 gang members as they travelled to west Auckland before returning to Flat Bush, in east Auckland, from this morning into this afternoon.
Inspector Adam Pyne said police were “incredibly disappointed” at the behaviour displayed by some of the gang members involved.
“While most were well behaved, police did observe some poor driving behaviour on parts of the route and intervened on several occasions,” Pyne said.
Two people were arrested for driving offences and two motorbikes were seized.
The group were then watched by police as they travelled to a function at a bar in Botany Junction.
1News understood the bar was Melt Soul Food.
“At one point during the afternoon, one of these attending the function performed a burnout outside the bar,” Pyne said.
Officers put a stop to the behaviour, after which some of the gang members left the bar and became aggressive.
Objects were allegedly thrown by the gang members at police following the altercation.
Three people were arrested at the scene, including one for wearing gang insignia in a public place.
A further three motorbikes were seized.
“Police again took action and advised those present to leave the area, and the bar was shut down.”
Pyne said an investigation was now underway into the actions of the gang members at the bar, as well as the driving behaviour from earlier in the day.
“We will not hesitate to take action against those who think that this behaviour is acceptable.”
Further arrests were expected as the investigation continued, he said.
