Dunedin Airport announced recently that bookings for Jetstar’s thrice-weekly Dunedin to Gold Coast service had hit over 20,000 since launching in June.
Dunedin Airport chief executive Daniel De Bono said they were “delighted” with the response and support from southern travellers for the transtasman service, as well as its visitors from across the Tasman.
“We know locals have been waiting for an international connection out of Dunedin for some time and it’s fantastic to now have direct flights to the Gold Coast, three times a week.
“Southern travellers have been keen to seek out fun in the sun on the Gold Coast and the city and the south are proving popular with those coming from the Gold Coast, too.”
The level of bookings so far had been encouraging, Mr De Bono said.
“The beauty of both destinations … with so much available for visitors in both directions means one visit just isn’t enough.”
A Jetstar spokesperson said they were happy with how Dunedin had responded to the new transtasman route.
“It’s been a popular choice for locals who now have a low-cost, convenient option to get across the Ditch … offering Aussies more opportunity to explore the stunning Otago region for less.”
