Further arrests related to motorcyclist killing in Mt Wellington

Two further people have been arrested in an ongoing homicide investigation after a motorcyclist was allegedly run down and stabbed in Mt Wellington last Friday.

The investigation, named Operation Hawkin, has been underway since December 5 after a man with critical injuries presented to an Auckland medical centre. He later died in hospital.

Police said at the time the man arrived at the medical centre on Lunn Ave with critical injuries around 12.15pm. Police were contacted and units responded to the area, including the police Eagle helicopter.

Detective Inspector Scott Beard previously said it was understood the victim got into an altercation with occupants of a hatchback vehicle on Harris Rd in Mount Wellington earlier in the afternoon.

On December 8, two men were charged with murder after being taken into custody near Te Awamutu.

A hearing was held in a closed court, due to concerns about safety. (Source: 1News)

Today, police said two further arrests had been made.

“Yesterday evening, police were speaking with a man taken into custody in the Waikato region near Te Awamutu,” said Beard.

“We have since charged the 53-year-old man with being an accessory after the fact to murder.”

A further search warrant was carried out in Auckland today, which resulted in the arrest of a 32-year-old man.

Beard said the man has also been charged with being an accessory after the fact to murder.

The men were expected to appear today in the Hamilton and Auckland district courts.

Beard said the investigation remained ongoing, and he could not rule out further arrests as police progressed in the matter.
