Sunday’s Good Sorts are a Tūrangi couple helping to rehabilitate feathered friends.
Husband and wife Carol and Frank Harwood were fly fishing guides who had seen a lot of birds in their time but never brought any home.
That is, until one day 25 years ago when their dog brought home a family full of ducks.
Carol nursed them back to health before releasing them.
“Then people got to know the ‘bird lady’ – that became my name,” she said.
The Department of Conversation nominated Carol because she is happy to help whenever she can.
“Day and night, it doesn’t matter what time it is,” a spokesperson said.
