IKEA NZ reveals pricing ahead of opening, pop-ups in other cities

IKEA has unveiled a sneak peek at its New Zealand pricing ahead of its first store opening in Auckland next month.

The retailer will also be giving Kiwis their first look at prices through pop-up venues in Christchurch and Wellington, showcasing a curated selection of popular items before the Sylvia Park store and online shopping launch on December 4.

Along with the pop-up experiences, IKEA has released a first look at its pricing. They include a FRAKTA carrier bag at $1.99 or a watering can at $4.99.

Budget-conscious shoppers can find items under $20 including the $12.99 LAMPAN table lamp, $19.99 vases and a children’s stool.

The range expands through items such as the $29.99 BLÅSVERK table lamp, $39.99 step stool, and $59.99 BURVIK side table, before rising to in price for larger furniture pieces.

Furniture ranges from $119 for the PERJOHAN storage bench and KRYLBO chair, through $199 for a POÄNG armchair, $219 for the IKEA PS LÖMSK swivel armchair, and $249 for storage cabinets, up to the $399 KLIPPAN sofa and STOCKHOLM rug.

A STRANDMON wing chair and RESARÖ drop-leaf table sit at the upper end at $449.

At the Auckland store’s food court, slices of Lingonberry Pavlova would be on offer for $4 along with a lamb pie for $6.50. Hoki fish and chips served with peas would be $14.

IKEA Australia and New Zealand head of marketing Kirsten Hasler said the brand aimed to “understand what home life is like in all the different cities we’re in”.

The Christchurch pop-up at Cathedral Square runs from today until December 10, open 10am to 6pm daily, featuring local artists including Miranda Parkes, Turumeke Harrington, Adam Popovic and Dcypher creating original works inspired by IKEA pieces.

Wellington’s pop-up at Odlins Plaza will run from November 28 to December 17, open 11am to 7pm daily, showcasing “movie-inspired posters and trailers created by local illustrators”.

“Each artist playfully reinterprets the design icons of IKEA through the lens of different movie genres from indie art house to 70s sci-fi,” an spokesperson said.

For “IKEA Family” members, parcel delivery across New Zealand costs $7 for orders over $15 and up to 8kg.

Truck delivery to customers’ front doors costs $49 within Auckland metro zones and $69 outside those zones, while pick-up points are priced at $29 in dedicated Auckland locations and $49 elsewhere.
