A man has been arrested and charged after a “disorder” event in South Auckland yesterday led to the discovery of cannabis and a firearm in a bin.
Police were called to Caravelle Close in Māngere at about 10.20pm.
Neighbours who spoke to 1News said they heard two gun shots. A police spokesperson said: “That is not something we’re able to confirm at this time.”
A car left the area during the disorder, police said. It was followed by the police Eagle helicopter.
“While the car was being monitored by Eagle, the crew observed the car stop at a nearby address, where the driver disposed of something in a rubbish bin. A passenger from the car remained at that location, and the driver drove away,” police said.
“Police units on the ground subsequently stopped the car and then went to the location where the driver had left the passenger.
“Officers located a firearm and cannabis in the rubbish bin.”
A man, 34, was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and possession of cannabis for supply.
He was set to appear in the Manukau District Court today.
