A man’s alleged attempted take-out from a Christrchurch McDonald’s has landed him in custody on serious charges.
Police said a man entered the McDonald’s in Woolston at about 5.50am on Monday morning and demanded staff open the till and give him cash.
The staff on shift handed over money, police said in a statement, and alerted the police.
It’s alleged the man left the restaurant on foot and was picked up by the police.
Christchurch Metro Response Manager Inspector Leairne Dow said: “Frightening incidents like these rightly cause concern.”
She said the McDonald’s staff did the right thing by contacting police immediately.
“We want to reassure the community that police are continuing to conduct regular patrols, as well as ongoing prevention work,” Dow said.
A man has been remanded in custody to appear in the Christchurch District Court on July 16, facing charges of burglary, demands to steal and assaulting police.
