A 28-year-old man has been arrested and charged following an aggravated burglary in Miramar, Wellington earlier this month.
Police were called to a Darlington Rd address around 2am on March 17, where the occupants located an intruder, unknown to them, inside their home.
At the time, Detective Senior Sergeant Tim Leitch said after an alleged altercation with the occupants of the house, the alleged offender fled.
One person in the house received minor injuries and the other three were uninjured, Leitch said.
In an update, Detective Inspector Nick Pritchard said police have arrested and charged a 28-year-old man with aggravated burglary and aggravated injury.
The man was due to appear in Wellington District Court today.
Pritchard said officers were continuing to establish if there was a link between the aggravated burglary and the death of 63-year-old Abdul Nabizadah, also in Miramar.
Police are working to determine whether a home break in that left a resident injured and the discovery of a critically injured man on a nearby street in Wellington’s Miramar in the early hours of this morning are linked. (Source: 1News)
“We are grateful for the assistance so far from the public and continue to appeal for information to assist in our inquiries,” he said.
Pritchard said at 12.28am, a man wearing a light-coloured top and dark pants was seen walking down Camperdown Rd from Totara St, turning right in to Darlington Rd from Camperdown Rd.
“We know Mr Nabizadah arrived in Totara Street in his silver-coloured Toyota Aqua, registration NQE681, at 12.25am, so this man may well have seen Mr Nabizadah and or his vehicle.
“We urge this person, or anyone who may know them, to come forward as soon as possible.”
Pritchard said at 1.30am, a man in fitness clothing or active wear was seen running south on Darlington Rd, before crossing the Camperdown Rd intersection.
“He was wearing a blue shirt, and we also need to hear from him.
“We understand these incidents are upsetting and concerning for the community and the investigation team are working tirelessly to determine the circumstances around Mr Nabizadah’s death and to bring closure for his family,” he said.
Anyone with information that could help the investigation teams was urged to contact police online, by calling 105 or anonymously via Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111.
