Person dies during crayfishing trip in Hawke’s Bay

One person has died after failing to return from a crayfishing trip today in Hawke’s Bay.

Police were contacted at 1.40pm after two people did not return from their trip this morning.

Coastguard Hawke’s Bay was then deployed, and found one person in the water at 3.10pm.

This person was transported back to shore by Coastguard Rescue, where they were checked over by ambulance staff, police said.

The second person was located in the water a short time later but was unresponsive. Police said they were unable to be revived.

The death would be referred to the Coroner, police said.
