A passenger in a ute involved in a head-on crash in Ōtaki last week died of their injuries in Wellington Hospital yesterday.
The crash on April 26 saw the driver of the ute pronounced dead at the scene, while two passengers were in serious and critical condition respectively.
At the time, police said the ute was wanted in connection to an alleged robbery in Ōtaki earlier in the evening and the driver had “initially fled” officers who signalled for them to stop.
Acting central district commander inspector Clifford Brown said today the man who was taken to Wellington Hospital in a critical condition died of his injuries yesterday.
“A third passenger in the ute remains in hospital in serious condition,” he said.
“Two people who were in the car that was hit also remain in Wellington Hospital as they recover.”
Brown said the incident remains under investigation, and extended condolences to the family and friends of all involved in the “tragic incident”.
He said information provided to the investigation team so far has proven valuable in understanding the sequence of events.
Anyone with information has been asked to contact police.
