A search is underway in Wellington Harbour after a man has reportedly gone overboard from an East by West ferry this morning.
A police spokesperson said in a statement: “Police are urgently seeking information to assist in identifying this person who was on board the 6am sailing from Queens Wharf to Days Bay.
“The person is believed to be a Pākehā male in his 40s.”
Anyone with information was urged to call 105.
The East by West ferry travels between Wellington’s Queens Wharf and Days Bay near Eastbourne.
Deputy Harbour Master Patrick Atwood told Stuff that about a dozen boats and a helicopter were involved in the search.
It wasn’t noticed the person was missing until the ferry reached its destination,” he added.
