“Our thoughts are with the injured person following today’s incident at the bus hub in Dunedin,” Otago Regional Council transport implementation lead Julian Phillips told Newshub.
“One stop was temporarily closed following the incident but all stops and services are back to normal.
“We continue to work with the DCC [Dunedin City Council] on improving safety at the hub by employing security guards.”
Phillips said the security guards were jointly funded Dunedin City Council and Otago Regional Council.
“The security guards also travel on the buses. Security cameras are also in the area,” he said.
Labour MP Ingrid Leary called the incident “terrible” in a Facebook post on Thursday, urging anyone who may need support following the assault to call or text helpline 1737.
