The New Zealand Defence Force’s bomb disposal team were called to a suburb on Auckland’s North Shore this evening after two canisters of “phosphorus” were reportedly found.
Police were called to Beach Rd in Murrays Bay at around 5.25pm following the discovery.
“Police assessed the items and advised the Explosive Ordnance Disposal team from NZDF,” a spokesperson said.
An NZDF spokesperson said that on arrival, the EOD team inspected and destroyed two marine marker flares.
In an update to Facebook at 8.10pm, police said the canisters were disposed of properly at the scene, with a 350-metre exclusion zone for safety.
A cordon that was put in place has now been fully lifted.
