A plane will be searching the coastline from Port Waikato to south of Raglan this weekend in an effort to find a fisherman missing since last Tuesday.
The man was fishing alone at around 10am on April 23 when he made a call over maritime radio that he was having a medical event.
Soon after, he activated his emergency locator beacon eight nautical miles off the coast of Raglan.
The man’s 6m boat was found anchored by the Coastguard and brought back to shore, but the man was nowhere to be found.
“An initial search was conducted by air and sea, but there were no signs of the man,” Inspector Will Loughrin said.
The searches included the use of the Police National Dive Squad, Coastguard and Navy.
“Police have maintained contact with the man’s family and are updating them on the search,” Loughrin said.
