Police are appealing for anyone who might have seen any suspicious activity the night a man arrived at an Auckland police station with a child’s body in a car to come forward.
On Monday, a 37-year-old man appeared in court charged with murder after arriving at the Manukau Police Station at about 1am with the deceased child.
Acting Detective Inspector Veronica McPherson said police were not seeking anyone else in connection to the child’s death, but called on potential witnesses to come forward.
“We would like to hear from anyone who witnessed any suspicious activity around the Waiouru Road area in Highbrook and East Tāmaki between 8.30pm and 1am on the evening of Sunday, January 5, 2025,” she said.
“Police would also like to hear from anyone who observed a blue-coloured Nissan Bluebird in that area between those times.”
People with information have been urged to contact police on 105.
The 37-year-old man, arrested after the child’s death, was granted interim name suppression in the Manukau District Court on Monday.
The court suppressed all details of the victim’s identity.
The man would next appear in the Auckland High Court on February 5.
