A woman in Hamilton was allegedly caught drink driving twice in four hours, leaving police “astounded” by her actions.
Police were called around 9pm on Friday after members of the public reported a vehicle being driven up and over curbs and weaving across the road in the Hamilton suburb of Flagstaff.
Police found the driver slumped at the wheel of the vehicle.
She underwent an alcohol testing procedure and returned a result of 1291 micrograms per litre of breath.
She was suspended from driving for 28 days and was taken back to a home where family lived in Hamilton.
Just after midnight, police stopped the same vehicle due to the the way it was being driven on Te Rapa Road in Beerescourt.
It’s alleged the same woman was at the wheel.
She underwent alcohol testing for a second time and returned a result of 1248 micrograms.
The woman was arrested and her vehicle was impounded for 28 days.
Senior Sergeant Philip Ruddell from Waikato Highway Patrol said it was “extremely concerning that people are continuing to make poor and reckless decisions such as this”.
“There is really only one positive outcome from these incidents – it is that someone reported the behaviour so we could remove this dangerous driver from our roads and we thank them for contacting us.”
The woman will appear in Hamilton District Court in relation to driving while suspended and two charges related to impaired driving.
