Photos of a backpack and contents carried by a man found dead in Christchurch’s Heathcote Valley have been shared by police, who hope it may lead to his body being identified.
Emergency services responded to reports of a sudden death on Horotane Valley Rd on Friday last week.
Since then, people have come foward with information and investigators have been following leads in the hopes of identifying him.
Despite their efforts, the man’s identity remains a mystery.
His death was not believed to be suspicious.
Police said he was thought to be in his 30s or 40s and had a “distinctive birthmark” on his left forearm.
This morning, police shared images of the man’s backpack and some of its contents – which included a pair of gloves, a drawstring bag, and a bike pump.
“Police are hoping that these images, paired with a description of the deceased, may be recognised by someone in the community,” Detective Sergeant Chris Power said.
The man was found wearing a black long-sleeved woollen jersey, black trousers, and grey tramping boots.
“If you have any information that could assist us in identifying this man, please contact Police on 105,” Power said.
