A pro-Palestinian protester has been arrested after climbing onto the Christchurch City Council building.
Emergency services were called to the scene at around 11.20am as police could be seen keeping the public away from the building.
The woman stood atop a canopy covering the entrance to the building, facing onto Worcester Boulevard, coming down from the roof at around 1.20pm.
A section of Worcester Boulevard was closed to traffic during the incident.
Police said a woman was arrested after returning to the ground.
“The woman came down from the roof on which she was protesting about 1.20pm and was arrested. Police will be interviewing the woman this afternoon and considering whether to lay charges,” a police spokesperson said.

Officers could be seen handcuffing the woman as nearby supporters cheered in support.
Earlier, a group of pro-Palestinian protesters gathered in front of the building, calling on the council to support an immediate ceasefire in Gaza — among other demands.
Protester Megan Lovelady said she wanted councillors to use their voice to speak out on the situation in Gaza.

“I think peacefully protesting is all well and good, but we actually need our politicians to listen to us, and we need sanctions upon Israel.”
