Roads reopen after truck and train collision on Kapiti Coast

Roads have reopened after a truck carrying a dump truck collided with a freight train in Waikanae on the Kapiti Coast this morning.

Police were notified that a truck and freight train had collided at 6.20am.

“Fortunately both the truck and train drivers are uninjured,” a police spokesperson said.

In an update this afternoon, police said the roads had since reopened and thanked all impacted residents and motorists for their patience.

KiwiRail said the Elizabeth St level crossing was fully protected with barrier arms, lights and bells.

The morning’s headlines in 90 seconds, including calls for driving fines to go up, how a doorbell leaked politicians’ phone numbers, and a scary moment at a gorilla enclosure. (Source: 1News)

Metlink train services on the Kāpiti line were earlier replaced by bus services between Waikanae and Paraparaumu.

The Capital Connection service from Palmerston North was also replaced by buses from Ōtaki.
