Fire and Emergency services are at the scene of a well involved fire at a rural school, northeast of Hamilton.
A FENZ spokesperson told 1News the fire broke out just before noon in a Puketaha School building “used as a school hall”, and has a size of approximately 10 to 15 metres.
“The building has been evacuated with all persons accounted for.”
A post from the school, shared on Facebook, said: “The staff have done an incredible job keeping the children safe and cared for.”
Two crews, equipped with breathing apparatus, were working to contain the fire.
“In attendance is four fire trucks, two water tankers, and a ladder truck that is coming down to Hamilton from Manukau.”
In total, FENZ said eight crews were at the scene, along with a Hamilton volunteer fire crew as a support team.
“The crews on the ground have also found another water source, being the schools swimming pool, alongside their two water tankers.”
A police spokesperson confirmed officers were also at the scene in support and the fire appeared to be in the roof of the building.
St John told 1News one person was assessed at the scene, and was in minor condition.
