Sánchez’s political turmoil on The Ring: A government in ‘survival mode’?

In this special edition, from the Ateneo of Madrid – an emblematic institution in the heart of the Spanish capital – we are joined by the former Member of the European Parliament for more than two decades for the European People’s Party and former Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel García-Margallo, and the current member of Congress for the Catalan Socialist Party, José Zaragoza.

Both take part in a high-level political showdown analysing the multiple fronts facing Pedro Sánchez’s government. What happens now that Junts has broken the alliance with the Socialists?

“This only creates more difficulties, something we are already used to”, Zaragoza argued, claiming that the government had to operate in a volatile scenario since the beginning of the term.

“It is an absolutely unprecedented case”, Margallo emphasized in turn when asked about the trial of the State Prosecutor General, accused of leaking data about the partner of the President of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso. In response to whether Sánchez’s support for the Prosecutor is legitimate, the socialist politician stated that “if the Prime Minister has confidence in that person, it is logical for him to express it without any hesitation.”

The Ring is hosted by Amaia Echevarria, produced by Luis Albertos Altarejos and Nikos Michos, and edited by Zacharia Vigneron.
