A search is underway for a diver who was reported missing at Whatipū Beach in west Auckland this morning.
Police said in a statement they were called shortly before 5.30am.

“Search efforts are ongoing to locate the man,” a police spokesperson said.
“The Police Eagle helicopter has deployed to assist with aerial-based searches, alongside police launch Deaodar, Search and Rescue and Coastguard New Zealand.”
A Coastguard spokesperson confirmed police alerted them to the missing freediver in the Manukau Harbour, near Paratutae Island earlier this morning.
“A total of eleven volunteers from Coastguard Waiuku and Coastguard Papakura have been searching since just before 7am,” they said.
