Second person arrested over shooting at Wellington flats

A second person has been arrested in relation to a shooting incident in Wellington’s Brooklyn earlier this month, where the victim of a “targeted attack” jumped from a balcony to escape a balaclava-wearing offender armed with a shotgun.

Police were called around 3.35pm to the Pukehinau Flats on November 2 after receiving reports of an altercation in which a shot was fired towards a man.

A person wearing a balaclava and armed with a shotgun allegedly entered the apartment and confronted the victim before firing a shot in his direction, prompting him to jump from the balcony to escape.

The man was not injured by the gunshot but sustained injuries from the fall, police said.

A 34-year-old woman was arrested in Palmerston North earlier this month in relation to the incident. She has since appeared in court and was remanded on bail to reappear on December 1.

On November 5, a 22-year-old man was stopped by police in Palmerston North for allegedly travelling at excess speed and was arrested after officers found a shotgun in his vehicle.

The man has since been charged in relation to the Brooklyn shooting.

He is due to appear in the Wellington District Court on December 1, charged with discharging a firearm with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and aggravated robbery.

Police said they were not seeking anyone else in relation to the incident.
