Several shallow earthquakes have given Christchurch residents a Saturday shake-up.
The first quake at 10.20am was measured at magnitude 3.4 by GeoNet and was only 4km underground.
It was centred to the south west of Christchurch.
Within 15 minutes of the quake, more than 2800 people had made reports to GeoNet saying they had felt the shaking, mostly describing it as light or weak.
This evening at 5.45pm a 3.5 magnitude quake struck at the same spot and same depth.
Then, at 6.09pm a third 3.0 magnitude tremblor also hit the same spot and 4km depth.
Most of the felt reports were from people in and around Christchurch and from the towns of Rolleston and Lincoln.
