Celebrities have begun walking back on their comments and jokes after Catherine, Princess of Wales, shared her shock cancer diagnosis to the world earlier today.
Among the first to make a public apology was US actress Blake Lively, who took to social media site Instagram following the “Photoshop controversy,” when an image of Princess Kate and her children was found to be edited.
Lively posted: “I’m sure no one cares today but I feel like I have to acknowledge this. I made a silly post around the ‘photoshop fails’ frenzy, and oh man, that post has mortified me today. I’m sorry.”
She added: “Sending love and well wished to all, always” and ended with a red heart emoji.
Kalen Allen โ a video-maker reporting “on trending topics with objectivity and factual accuracy” โ made the decision to withdraw the video he’d made about Princess Kate’s whereabouts.
Allen said: “The recent revelation about Kate Middleton’s cancer diagnosis necessitated a re-evaluation of this particular content. As a public figure, I understand the delicate balance between being newsworthy and respecting personal struggles… In the fast-paced world of information sharing, it’s natural for us as human beings to gravitate towards gossip.
“It’s not always easy to discern what is worthy of discussion and what should be approached with more sensitivity. This situation has highlighted the importance of exercising discretion and finding grace, not only for ourselves but for others as well.
“My decision to delete the video was made to ensure that it would not be misinterpreted or cause any additional distress. It’s a reminder of the responsibility we hold in communicating news, especially when it involves personal health matters.
“I appreciate your understanding and support in this decision. It is my hope that this action will contribute to a more compassionate and considerate conversation around personal health challenges even towards public figures.”
Also caught by the rumours swirling around the princess were Kim Kardashian, John Oliver and Andy Cohen โ all of whom made jokes at the Princess’ expense. So far, none of the three have posted public apologies.
According to Bang Showbiz, US actress Jamie Lee Curtis was ahead of the curve when she took to social media hours before Princess Kate revealed her medical woes.
Curtis wrote on Instagram: “Can we please just STOP with this bull****conspiracy theory? This is a human being with young children, and clearly some sort of a health issue. That is a private matter.
“Do we not have better things to do and more important things to think about and be concerned about than this? It’s a really low point in our society when there are SO MANY crucial issues that need our attention.
In a follow-up statement, Curtis said: “And now Princess Kate has told us about her health and now we should send nothing but our best wishes to her and her family and focus on our own lives and the lives of people directly related to us, and the myriad life-threatening issues to our children that we can focus on.”
