A Talley’s worker has died at the company’s wharf at Port Nelson today.
Talley’s Ltd chief executive Tony Hazlett confirmed that a staff member had been fatally injured.
“We are extremely saddened and send our deepest condolences to the person’s family, who we are supporting,” he said.
Police said emergency services were called to the scene at 12.50pm.
The person was found in critical condition and CPR was commended, however, the person was unable to be revived.
“Enquiries into the circumstances of the incident are ongoing and the death will be referred to the coroner,” police said.
Talley’s is working with police and Maritime NZ, who are investigating.
Maritime NZ has “started making preliminary enquiries into what occurred”, a spokesperson told 1News.
“These enquiries will inform any future steps we take as the regulator.
“Our sympathies go out to those connected to, and impacted by this tragic incident.”
