Police have verified no firearm was involved in an incident in Taupō this afternoon that saw a school put into lockdown.
A spokesperson said police responded to reports of a person with a firearm on Acacia Bay Rd in Nukuhau.
A nearby school had been asked to lock down as a precaution, they said.
“Police are speaking with the person and verified no firearm was involved.”
Cordons previously stood up on the road at Acacia Bay Rd and Norman Smith St will be stood down and the lock down at the school will be lifted.
“Police would like to thank the community for responding to Police instructions and their patience and understanding while we resolved the situation.”
