A teenager has been arrested in relation to the death of a Hamilton man out celebrating his upcoming birthday over the weekend.
Tyreece Te Pairi, 20, was critically injured in a fight between two groups of people on Alexandra St around 12.10am on Sunday.
Te Pairi died of his injuries in hospital. Three others were treated for moderate and serious injuries.
The 18-year-old appeared in Hamilton District Court today and has been remanded in custody.
Detective Inspector Daryl Smith said all facts in relation to the charges and ongoing investigation has been suppressed.
Smith said while the arrest is great progress in the investigation, there is more work to be done.
“The information that is provided from the community is crucial in assisting in our investigation, and we urge anyone who has information and has not yet contacted us to please get in touch,” he said.
“If you saw this fight, if you filmed it, or if you have dashcam footage, we need to hear from you.”
Police have set up a dedicated web portal where people can upload photos or footage taken between 11.30pm on Saturday, July 19 to 12.30am on Sunday morning on Alexandra St and the surrounding areas.
