Two teenagers have been arrested after the alleged robbery of four buses in the Hutt Valley in late April.
The incidents — which occurred over six days from Wednesday, April 17 — occurred at the same bus stop on High Street near Athlone Crescent North between 6pm and 8pm.
Police said that during the robberies, drivers were assaulted, and cash boxes “with minimal amounts of money” were taken.
“Thankfully [the drivers] only received minor injuries,” Detective Senior Sergeant Martin Todd said.
The two youths, aged 15 and 16, were set to appear in the Hutt Valley Youth Court on Wednesday, May 8.
“As the case is before the court, police are unable to comment further,” Todd said.
He also thanked the community for its support in the investigation, “allowing us to identify the suspects and hold them to account for their alleged offending”.
“Everybody deserves to be able to do their work and go about their day without being made to feel unsafe.”
This morning, a bus drivers’ union organiser said violence on Auckland’s public transport system has reached a “crisis point”.
