Three people have died after a car left the road and rolled into a nearby body of water on the eastern outskirts of Waiuku in rural Auckland this afternoon.
Emergency services responded to the single-vehicle crash on Masters Rd at around 3.30pm on Tuesday.
Police confirmed the triple fatal crash in a statement shortly after 6pm.
“Sadly, all three occupants of the vehicle have died at the scene,” a police spokesperson said.
“We acknowledge that this is tragic news for the tight-knit community in Waiuku.
“Next of kin have now been contacted and police will be ensuring support is put in place for them.”
Fire and Emergency NZ said it responded with three fire trucks and multiple support vehicles, adding that the vehicle had left the road and rolled.
St John also confirmed it had responded.
The serious crash unit was in attendance and would carry out an investigation to determine how the crash occurred.
Masters Rd was closed between Kidd Rd and Waiuku Rd and would remain so “for a significant period of time”, police said.
Waiuku is a rural town in the Auckland region which sits close to the border with Waikato.
