Three seriously injured men are in hospital after an “incident” in the Canterbury town of Ashburton overnight.
Officers were responding to a separate job on William St about 2am when they found two injured people in a car.
Det Sgt Colin Welsh said both were taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
“A third person, also seriously injured, self-transported to hospital,” he added.
“An investigation is ongoing to determine the circumstances of this incident.”
Welsh said those involved appeared to be known to each other and nobody else was being sought.
Anyone with information that could assist was urged to call 111 and quote file number 240526/1036.
