Two arrests after robbery, stabbing at Christchurch dairy

A second teenager has been charged with being involved in a series of crimes across Christchurch, including the stabbing and robbery of a dairy owner.

Officers were called to a report of robbery and assault carried out by three people at a business on Opawa Rd shortly before 7am on Tuesday.

“During the incident, the store owner was stabbed, causing serious injuries to him,” Christchurch District Commander Superintendent Tony Hill said at the time.

The trio fled the scene in a vehicle – a silver Toyota MarkX – taking a till and “other items” with them.

It followed at least four reported aggravated robbery incidents across the city on Sunday – three of them committed within the span of an hour.

A 14-year-old boy appeared in court on Wednesday on serious charges.

This afternoon, a 17-year-old was located in New Brighton, Hill said.

They will appear in the Youth Court on multiple charges, including burglary, aggravated robbery, and wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

“We continue to work at pace to identify other parties involved in this and other recent youth offending, and hold those parties to account,” Hill said.

‘Heartbreaking and absolutely infuriating’

The daughter of the dairy owner revealed on social media on Wednesday that she had woken up to a call from her mother “crying and terrified”.

“It was shocking, heartbreaking and absolutely infuriating, especially because it is NOT the first time.”

She said her father “pours his heart into supporting his community” working 16-18 hours a day, seven days a week.

“NO family should have to go through what we just went through!!! And we will not stay silent about it.”

The daughter added that her father remained in a stable condition but had “a long road of recovery ahead of him”.

“As a family, we genuinely appreciate every bit of love, support, and strength people have shown us during this horrible time. It means more than we can ever express.”

A Givealittle page set up by a regular customer of the dairy had raised more than $10,500 as of Thursday evening.

Anyone with information was asked to contact police on 105 or anonymously through Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111, referencing Operation Anchor.
