Two workers for a Norwegian charity involved in demining efforts in Ukraine have been killed in a Russian strike, the charity has announced.

The Oslo-based humanitarian organisation Norwegian People’s Aid (NPA) said on Wednesday that it had received reports that two of its colleagues had been killed and several others were injured in an attack on Ukraine.

The Kherson Regional State Administration said the strike targeted the Vysokopillia area of the Kherson region.

“We are currently working to verify the details, and our thoughts are with those affected and their families,” the NPA said.

“This is devastating news. My thoughts are with the families, loved ones and colleagues of those affected,” the NPA’s Secretary General Raymond Johansen added. “Our immediate priority is to support the injured and provide assistance to our colleagues in Ukraine”.

The NPA has more than 450 staff based in Ukraine, where it has been carrying out mine clearance activities since 2023.

It says it has 38 manual demining teams and 20 mine-detection dogs and handlers currently operating the Mykolaiv and Kherson regions.

The charity runs field offices in Shyroke and Mykolaiv in southern Ukraine, and Sumy in the northeast of the country.
