Tyre damage on Emirates Airbus after Auckland landing, probe launched

An investigation has been launched after an Emirates A380-861 was found to have damage to two of its tyres and wheels after landing at Auckland Airport yesterday.

The Transport Accident Investigation Commission (TAIC) announced it had opened an inquiry into the “serious incident” involving an Emirates A380-861 aircraft arriving shortly after 11.30am on Sunday in wet weather conditions.

“The reported circumstances were that the aeroplane landed during rainfall and then taxied to the parking gate. The post-flight inspection identified some damage to two of the aeroplane’s tyres and wheels,” the TAIC announcement read.

No injuries were reported.

Auckland Airport confirmed an incident had occurred on the runway yesterday.

“We have reported this to the Civil Aviation Authority in line with our usual processes, and we will be supporting any ongoing investigation,” a spokesperson told 1News.

The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) said the incident had been assessed in line with procedures.

“A decision is being made about what action, if any, the CAA will take in the interests of aviation safety.

“The CAA is also aware that the Transport Accident Investigation Commission (TAIC) has opened an investigation into the event.”

Emirates has been approached for comment.
