A man has been arrested following an alleged “unprovoked” stabbing at a park in Palmerston North park this afternoon.
Police were called to a park on Dogwood Way at around 1pm after receiving reports that a person had received injuries consistent with stab wounds in an unprovoked assault.
“One person was transported to Palmerston North Hospital in a serious condition where they are receiving medical treatment,” Detective Sergeant Shelley Ross said.
A 25-year-old man was arrested and was due to appear in the Palmerston North District Court tomorrow, charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
“This was a callous and unprovoked attack, which we will not tolerate in our community,” Ross said.
She also thanked members of the public for their patience as they were delayed while police responded to the incident.
