Police have arrested and charged a woman who fled the scene after a teenager was fatally struck by a car in South Auckland last month.
Kaea Conan Matua, 14, was struck by a car and died at the scene on Great South Rd in Papatoetoe at around 10pm on March 8.
Detective Senior Sergeant Jason McIntosh said the driver of the vehicle fled the area following the collision and the vehicle was located shortly after.
“Police have been making inquiries into the incident in the weeks following the crash and as a result have today arrested a 30-year-old woman.”
McIntosh said police hope the arrest brings some closure to Kaea’s family.
“We extend our condolences to Kaea’s friends and whānau who are understandably devastated at what happened on that Friday night.”
She was charged with excess breath alcohol, failing to stop and ascertain injury, and driving in a dangerous manner.
The woman is due to appear in Manukau District Court on Thursday.
