A woman who was found dead in Wellington Harbour on Sunday morning has been identified by police.
The woman was found in the water off Māhina Bay near Eastbourne at around 8am.
While police are yet to name her, it has been determined she was a 60-year-old from Hutt Valley who had recently been living in Levin.
“We send our condolences to her family and friends at this difficult time and are providing ongoing support,” Detective Inspector Haley Ryan said.
Officers are continuing their inquiries to determine how the woman ended up in the water.
In a statement yesterday afternoon, police said investigators believed she may have been walking in the York Bay area earlier on Sunday morning.
Investigators asked anyone who was in the area between 6am and 8am on Sunday and may have observed something to come forward.
Those with information are being asked to call 105.
