A woman is fortunate she had a working mobile phone and police were near enough at hand after she was overtaken by an incoming tide on Auckland’s North Shore this afternoon.
The woman called the police after being trapped on rocks by the incoming tide at Castor Bay around 1.30pm.
By the time Waitematā East police arrived, she was being battered by waves.
An officer climbed the rocks to locate the woman and provide reassurance.
Once the maritime unit arrived, the officer jumped into the water to assist her onto the waiting boat.
The woman was taken to Mechanic’s Bay for a medical assessment.
Senior Sergeant CJ Miles said: “This rescue also highlights the importance of a working mobile phone, and to contact emergency services if you need help”.
This water rescue is the second significant effort of its kind this week, with two being rescued from a blowhole and one from the sea in the Coromandel on Thursday.
