Chris Hemsworth felt like he “became a parody” of himself in his most recent Taika Waititi directed appearance as Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The Australian actor has appeared eight times as the Asgardian hero in the franchise, across the Avengers films and his own solo quadrilogy.
Kiwi director Taika Waititi helmed the third and fourth films — 2017’s Thor: Ragnarok and 2022’s Thor: Love and Thunder.
Waititi was as keen as Hemsworth to “tweak the Thor character”, and the pair decided to have fun with the film’s tone.
While reviews for Ragnarok were overwhelmingly positive, reactions to its follow-up were mixed.
Hemsworth told Vanity Fair he got “caught up in the improv and wackiness, and I became a parody of myself”.
“I didn’t stick the landing.”
He said he believes he owes the audience another Thor film after “what felt like a whiff” with Thor: Love and Thunder.
