Police have released the names of the couple found dead in rural West Auckland yesterday.
They were Alfred Helge Hansen, aged 82, and Gaye Carole Hansen, aged 81.
They were found deceased in an Anzac Valley Road property in Waitākere alongside a ram, which was later shot dead after attacking people.
At the time, it was alleged the ram had been responsible for the deaths of the couple.
“We can confirm post mortem results indicate injuries consistent with an animal attack,” police said.
Federated Farmers spokesman Simon Cameron issued his condolences to the family yesterday, saying “hormones are all go in mating season, so they are more aggravated sometimes at this time of year.”
He said deaths due to farm animals were rare but mating season could make them more volatile.
Police said the deaths have been referred to the Coroner.
