Police were called to the Anzac Valley Road address in Waitākere before 7:30am on Thursday, after a relative discovered their bodies in a paddock.
Police confirmed the ram was still in the paddock when they arrived and “confronted” police, who shot it dead.
A dead ram was seen beside one of the bodies, according to a Newshub reporter at the scene.
“We can confirm post-mortem results indicate injuries consistent with an animal attack,” a police spokesperson said in an update on Friday.
“Police extend our sympathies to their wider family after what has been a tragic incident.”
The Hansens’ deaths will be referred to the Coroner.
