Police are looking for a rideshare driver who came to the aid of a man hit by a vehicle and left lying in the middle of a dark road last month.
The man, who was a short distance from home, was struck by a vehicle while crossing Old Porirua Rd in Ngaio sometime between 4.45am and 5.45am on Sunday, April 21.
The driver failed to stop or call for help and left the man lying in the middle of a dark road.
A rideshare driver stopped and managed to wake him.
“While the driver offered to call an ambulance, the victim was unaware of how serious his injuries were and instead asked to be taken home,” Detective Rosanne Rix of the Wellington serious crash investigation unit said.
The man was later taken to a hospital, where he was treated for “several days”.
Now, police would like to talk to the rideshare driver to build a picture in its investigation.
“By stopping to help, the rideshare driver has prevented the victim from being struck by any other vehicles but may also have information that helps us build a picture of what occurred,” Rix said.
“If you were that driver or know who they are, please [get in] contact with us.”
Anyone with information on the rideshare driver or the incident itself is being asked to call police on 105.
“Police also want to hear from anyone with information about the incident or footage of it.”
